The stars reflect in Furnace's eyes as he gazes at the heavens, lost in his memories.

He stretches out on the strip of beach dividing the lush jungle from the sparkling ocean as it reflects a myriad pinpricks of light. He has a strange feeling he is inside a world of stars, looking in awe at the formations he knows like the back of his paw.

The beach is deserted at this hour, and as his gaze moves up to the belt of Orion, where the brightest stars twinkled in the dark, his thoughts invariably wander to her; her warm smile and blue eyes. 

The Cat's Paw had been his home for years, before the owners decided to bring another cat on board. At first he had felt threatened, but when he met Calico Jane, his heart felt fit to burst.

There was a night, not so different from this night, when the stars stretched from horizon to horizon, and the two of them had lay curled up on the deck, wrapped in each other.

Looking into his eyes, she'd turned to him and said, 'Furnace, my beautiful boy, I think this is the first time I have felt complete. You complete me, Furnace.'

He hadn’t needed to say anything because she knew he felt exactly the same.

Gazing upon the bright stars now, he wondered if she were gazing upon these same stars from wherever she was, and he wondered if she had forgiven him for what he’d done.
